- I have been writing, in one form or another, since the late 80's.
- I began writing picture book manuscripts in early 2009.
- Most are funny, quirky stories for the 4 to 8 year old crowd.
- Some rhyme, some don't.
- Most are around 500 words. Some are longer. Some are shorter.
- My story subjects include robots, dinosaurs, zoo animals, kids, bugs, trucks, musical instruments, monsters, ABCs and much more.
- I also have early chapter and middle grade book ideas I am currently developing.
- I have over 20 completed picture book manuscripts and 1 early chapter series in my portfolio.
- Some I have submitted to agents and editors. Some I haven't.
- I am part of a local critique group that helps me polish my work.
- After participating in the 2011 Picture Book Marathon and 2011 Picture Book Idea Month, I have an idea list of around 130 concepts I am working from for my next books.
- I love writing funny, entertaining and unique stories that make kids and adults giggle and cheer.
- Though I am well aware of the option to self publish, I am working my way into the industry through the traditional process, which means submitting my picture book manuscripts to editors at publishing houses and literary agents.
- A lot of people ask if I "do the pictures" for my books. Right now, I don't. Although I was graphic designer for 10 years creating logos and laying out brochures, ads and magazines, I don't consider myself an illustrator. I'm concentrating on telling great stories. If a publisher likes one, they will find the perfect professional picture book illustrator to make the pages beautiful. That is a very exciting process! Down the road, I may try to incorporate my design skills into a picture book, but for now, I'm a words man.
- I look forward to the day when my books are on the shelves in bookstores and libraries around the world. I can't wait to sit down with groups of kids, share my stories, and hopefully inspire them to tell their own. When that all happens, I'll be sure to let you know.
